I know You Are But What Am I?
Here's my one contribution to the Crazy 4 Cult Show at Gallery 1988:
I picked one of my all-time favorite movies, Pee Wee's Big Adventure. I knew that someone was going to do a piece about Pee Wee's "troubles" with the law. I never really agreed with the rep that Paul Reubens got after all that, so I decided to do a straight homage to the movie.
But, I love Francis (Mark Holton). I think he is the unsung hero of Pee Wee's Big Adventure. He was just a spoiled rich kid who was so dumb that it never occured to him to hire someone to make a Pee Wee bike for himself. I guess nothing can be as good as the original...
Don't forget that Phil Hartman had a cameo in the movie, but more impotantly wrote it with Paul Reubens.
Maybe next year I'll do a Big Lebowski piece...

Gabe, this is fantastic! Really great designs and paint. This is definitely one of the stand-outs from the show (even though I only saw the show online). So tubular!
We loved that piece you did. We saw it from across the room and said Gabe did that one!
That was a favorite movie of my brother and I when we younger.
Sorry I missed you at the Crazy4Cult show. I hope to see you at the Comic-Con on Friday. :)
>sigh< I really miss my unitard Pee Wee PJs with the white clogs attached and printed too look like his suit.
"Au revoir, Pee Wee. Au revoir"
"Ovwa, Simone"

this is a great piece gabe! so do you do a color comp on the 'puter before you paint it? or was that for prints?
Great piece! That's one of my favorite movies too. Pee Wee rules!
What a great homage to the movie! I love this. And I totally agree, Francis was the PERFECT foil for Pee Wee!! I love the scene where they fight in the huge bathtub, and I dig how you drew their faces!
I LOVE IT!!!!! Great job, Gabe!!!!
I can still see you and ZeeWee doing the "PeeWee dance" to Tequila!!! HA!!!
Great time!!! Thanks for the memories, Gip!!!

Dude, that made me laugh out loud and spit my coffee all over the screen - nice work! FRAN-CISSS! This rocks and can tell you had a lot of fun with it! I think I may need to find or make myself an 'FB' shirt like the one Mr. Buxton adorns himself in. That umm, jumpsuit outfit isn't too shabby either!

this is truely fantastic... i have seen many peep wee herman illustrations but never one of Francis... excellent!
Is this going to eventually turn into a print form the show?

FRANCIS: "are you trying to make a monkey out of me?!"
PEE WEE: "i don't make monkeys...I JUST TRAIN EM!"
you just went off the chartts on the awesome-o-meter!
just an aside...
i always loved the matching embroidered jumpsuits francis and his dad wore. that's how i envision rich people dressing about the house to this day.
wasn't mark holton also in teen wolf? that could be a fun piece too!
