Crispy Creepies

Here's my illustration for the new "Cereal Killers" book for Von Kreep over at Kreepsville Industries.

I really wanted to do a lesser known cereal, so I based mine on a cereal called Crispy Critters circa 1966. I loved the layout of these boxes so much. I love how they really frame the character with text and cereal shapes...

Here's the sketch:

Here's the flat version (before photoshop textures):

Yeah, this is wild, man! I gotta get my hands on that book.

I'm also a big fan of all your i am 8-bit paintings. I've been nervous about submitting something to that open-call, but I have nothing to lose so I might as well.

Great stuff! What's your technique for inking? Brush, pens, markers, Flash, Illustrator?

I ink everything in flash. I flash colored it as well, then just exported it out, and textured it in photoshop.

I used to ink everything traditionally but I git sick of scanning and cleaning up. Besides with Flash, you can resize very easily!

I really like the brush tool in Flash, it looks really nice. It looks like real brush...

Nice! I've made several size custom brushes that work similar to the brush in Flash. It's certainly nice for flexibility when doing work for print.

Thanks for posting this- especially the process of your, um, process.

I especially love the hairy guy. I can see him as a Muppet, flopping and dancing around. What's his story?

Gonna be a grrrrrreat book.
