Crispy Creepies
Here's my illustration for the new "Cereal Killers" book for Von Kreep over at Kreepsville Industries.
I really wanted to do a lesser known cereal, so I based mine on a cereal called Crispy Critters circa 1966. I loved the layout of these boxes so much. I love how they really frame the character with text and cereal shapes...
Here's the sketch:

HOLY CRAP! This is awesome! I love it! I've always dug your work, but this is tops.
I can't wait to see the book! So many great submissions popping up in the blogosphere...
i like those little crispy guys!
Yeah, this is wild, man! I gotta get my hands on that book.
I'm also a big fan of all your i am 8-bit paintings. I've been nervous about submitting something to that open-call, but I have nothing to lose so I might as well.
Great stuff! What's your technique for inking? Brush, pens, markers, Flash, Illustrator?
I like that yeti type fellow very much! I would eat this cereal!
I think that's my favorite thing you've done to date.
Tastey looking..great job
I ink everything in flash. I flash colored it as well, then just exported it out, and textured it in photoshop.
I used to ink everything traditionally but I git sick of scanning and cleaning up. Besides with Flash, you can resize very easily!
I really like the brush tool in Flash, it looks really nice. It looks like real brush...
Nice! I've made several size custom brushes that work similar to the brush in Flash. It's certainly nice for flexibility when doing work for print.
wow! your work is awesome! very inspirational.
I love these!!!
But then again, what else would you expect from the brother of the man who captured Saddam?
Hey Gabe,
Once again, thanks from the bottom on my black heart for creating such a wayout monster box art piece for Cereal Killers! I'll keep you posted on things for sure!
Your putrid pal,
Von Kreep
Thanks for posting this- especially the process of your, um, process.
I especially love the hairy guy. I can see him as a Muppet, flopping and dancing around. What's his story?
Gonna be a grrrrrreat book.
i like these a lot Gabe. really nice designs and the colors are nice too.
